Join the Microgreens Production Team!

About Micro YYC:

Micro YYC is an urban microgreen operation that has been growing fresh microgreens and shoots for retail stores, restaurants, and distributors since 2015. We serve our customers, year-round, with the help of a small, dedicated team of staff that operates out of an indoor facility in central SW Calgary.

Micro YYC’s microgreens are soil-grown from organic seed, without the use of synthetic inputs. Micro YYC products are sold in compostable or zero-waste packaging. Growing and distributing good quality food in our bio-region with the least amount of impact on the external environment possible is an important part of Micro YYC’s mission.

Job description:

Production Team Member (part time)

Members of our team are full of energy and enthusiasm, incredibly hard-working, and productive. Our team moves quickly to ensure that the job at hand gets done in a timely and efficient manner. Our team works together to find synergies in the workflow, and also knows when to divide and conquer on independent tasks.

Our team prioritizes quality and knows the importance of food safety in the production process. Under the guidance of our Operations Manager, the microgreens production team works to their fullest potential in a fast-paced, but easygoing atmosphere.

Microgreens production can be repetitive at times, and our team knows how to keep up morale with good conversation, music, and podcasts (we also appreciate a good quiet day from time to time). Microgreens production can also be unpredictable with unforeseen orders, issues, or circumstances that keep the production team on their toes, ready to adapt to a new plan at any time.

Members of our team are physically strong and capable of occasional heavy lifting. Knowing how to take care of your body while performing repetitive tasks is a must. Micro YYC is an indoor facility, but it is not a climate-controlled oasis - team members must be capable of working in the summer heat, or the winter chill and dress appropriately for the temperature.

Job specifics:

  • Planting: prepping soil, seeding, watering, stacking, and lifting trays
  • Plant Care: watering, monitoring, and caring for microgreens in all stages of growth
  • Harvesting: cutting, packaging, and labeling microgreens; packing orders for delivery
  • Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning (for this position - at least one half-day per week will be spent washing trays)

Our ideal candidate:

We want someone who is passionate about local and quality food and is familiar with the Calgary food community; someone who appreciates taking home delicious greens as a job perk.

We would love someone with some farming, gardening, or food processing experience. Knowledge of plants (especially veggies) and how they grow would be awesome. (An eagerness to learn, would also be acceptable!)

We need someone who is not discouraged by routine, repetitive tasks, who is ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into a big planting day, a full harvest day, or a pile of trays that need to be cleaned.

We are looking for someone who is excited about joining a small entrepreneurial team, is a keen learner, a creative problem solver, and puts care and attention into their work.

We require team members that are trustworthy, dependable, and willing to go the extra mile when the need arises.
